Confidentiality and Data Protection

Confidentiality

We offer a confidential service, within the requirements of the Law. All information given by the client will be treated with respect and dignity, following the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and/or Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice. No information will be given to any family member, public or professional colleague without the client’s knowledge or written consent.

In relation to our duty of care as mental health professionals and to maintain our ethical practice, we have a legal requirement to the state limitations we have regarding confidentiality, which are as follows:

  • There is a serious risk of harm to themselves or others.
  • Upon subpoena by court order or instructed by the coroner’s office.
  • Disclosure involves serious criminal activity.
  • There is reference to knowledge or involvement of behaviour which may lead to harm or neglect of children or vulnerable adults.

Our counsellors/coaches will always endeavour to seek consent if the above limitations require disclosure to the relevant authorities, however in an emergency or crisis, this may not always be possible.

Personal data is used solely for counselling/coaching purposes unless consent is explicitly given otherwise. As a company, we are fully responsible for the security of client data and will take all reasonable precautions to prevent loss, misuse, or alteration.
