We offer counselling for children and young people aged 5–17 years old, providing a safe, supportive space where they can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace.
Find Out MoreA safe, confidential space to talk, play, create and make sense of their experiences can be helpful in itself.
Counselling with children and young people can look very different from adult counselling. Depending on their age, needs and personality, sessions can be creative, play-based and imaginative, alongside more traditional talking approaches. A key part of the work is building a trusting relationship and creating a sense of rapport, safety and acceptance, so that your child or young person feels comfortable being themselves and expressing what is going on for them.
We believe that children and young people benefit from having a space that feels like their own, a place where they can be listened to without judgement, develop an understanding of themselves and their experiences, and be supported to find ways of managing the challenges they may be facing.
Our aim is to work collaboratively with the child or young person, and where appropriate with their parent or guardian, to create a therapeutic relationship in which they feel heard, understood and safe.
Counselling does not always need to be about a specific problem. Sometimes having a safe, confidential space to talk, play, create and make sense of their experiences can be helpful in itself.
Before counselling begins, we offer parents or guardians an optional complimentary call and ask for some background information about your child or young person. This helps us understand what has brought you to counselling, what support you are looking for, and whether our service is likely to be a good fit for your family's needs.
During the first session, the counsellor will explain the boundaries of confidentiality to both you and your child or young person. This ensures everyone understands how private conversations are respected, while also recognising the safeguarding responsibilities that help keep children and young people safe.
